Current comics: what should I buy?

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 13, 2010, 12:51 AM
I'm looking for your recommendations for some comic series to get into and start purchasing on a regular basis. Of course, this means stuff that's current.

"What sort of stuff do you like?" you may ask. Well, I like solid art for starters, but only so long as the accompanying story is worth the read. Great art and style are not critical to me though -- story is really more important to me, but wen a book has both, that's a great bonus.

Less generally, I've liked a lot of stuff that's slightly off the beaten path, including stuff that falls into the "slice of life stories" that are out there.

As for superhero stuff, while I'm not averse to it, it's not something I've gravitated towards in recent years, but would be willing to consider something in the superhero genre.

Some stuff I've liked over the last while:

-Scott Pilgrim
-The Walking Dead
-Invincible
-Wet Moon
-Strangers in Paradise
-King City
-Asterios Polyp
-anything that Ashley Wood makes (Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons, World War Robot, etc., etc.)
-Hellboy
-Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark
-Groo the Wanderer
-Shaolin Cowboy
-Echo
-Bone
-Herobear and the Kid
-Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season Eight)
-Buddha
-Black Jack
-Three Fingers
-Halo and Sprocket
-Maus
-Watchmen

Hopefully you recognize something in there and may have some ideas as to some current comics that I might enjoy. Your advice would be appreciated. :)

(Essentially I'm wanting to get an account at the local comic store where they'll put aside comics for me so that i won't have to worry about missing stuff that's coming out... but to DO that for you you need to be subscribing to four or five current books.)

A special thanks in advance to anyone that responds with suggestions -- it may seem like a small thing, but having that account at my local comics shop will save me a lot of stupid stress.

EDIT: Again, a reminder that I'm more on the lookout here for series that are currently ongoing. Hearing about stuff that's either complete or self-contained or whatever is good too, but I'm especially interested in stuff that I can continue to buy on a regular basis.

I'm too lazy to comment on every single picture out of the hundreds that you have, so I'll say it here //D
I absolutely love how you aren't afraid to try new styles, mediums and strange materials, transitioning from impressive digital art, to the hard worked traditional pieces. You have so many different Earthbound pieces, and you make sure that you can effortlessly redesign any NPC or enemy found in the games! I've seen firsthand how your art skills have blossomed to such an incredible level :)
Well done my man.

Thanks so much for the very kind words -- it's always great to know that someone enjoys what I'm doing. I figure that we learn an awful lot through playing, so I try to have fun and play around with things and pick up some new ideas as I go.

The Mother series has been a valuable muse for me, and I may not have come even as far as I have without it.

Again, thanks. :)
